Julia can summarize what she feels in the beauty of Catholicism quite simply: it’s universal. Not despite the different ways people practice the catholic faith, but because of it. “To me, it’s important to connect with people who share the same religion. It makes you aware that you are an instrument of the will of God. At the same time, you should be open to the opinions of other people, so you don’t get stuck in your own believes within your faith.”
Although Julia has been a member of the English community of Parochie Maria for only a few months, she feels at home there. “For a community to feel welcoming, it has to allow you participate as a member, not so much only a consumer of the contents being preached. There shouldn’t be people solely responsible for some community activities, preventing anyone else from taking on an role in the community. I think the English community of Parochie Maria is a good example of a welcoming community. There’s people who have been a part of it for a long time and people who are new to it, albeit to town or to faith. But they all share their stories and find their way through faith together. That makes the community welcoming and unique.”
