Camila remembers being surprised when she first got to the Netherlands. “I noticed it was not like my home in Brazil, where everybody goes to church, whether young or old. We’re very much raised with religion. When I attended my first mass in the Sint-Jan, there were just a handful of elderly people in mass.”
Camila thinks it’s a pity that so few people in the Netherlands are not religious anymore. “Faith can give you spiritual guidance in a world that is changing very fast, and not always in the way we want. To be able to have religion as a core value to hold on to is very precious.”
Camila is a young mother and hopes to pass along the wisdom she finds in religion to her child. “I want to raise my child showing how valuable it is to belong in a community with people from all around the world, where everyone is welcome. And the people of Parochie Maria’s English community certainly are. Even to those who don’t necessarily share our believe. In the end, we all look for a place to belong and this community is just that for me and for anyone who’d like to join us.
Feel free to join us for English mass, every Saturday at 17.15h. St. Catharine's church is located at Kruisbroedershof 4 5211 GX 's-Hertogenbosch.
