Although she’s Dutch herself, Elke has been present from almost the first English mass that was held at St. Catherine’s Church in ‘s-Hertogenbosch.
To Elke, the English mass is very refreshing. ‘In the English mass, we have people in our community from all kinds of cultures. I like how we form a unity with all different kinds of cultures. ’
Elke loves coming to the dinner that is always held after mass. ‘Eating together is not just fun and cozy. It is also a way to really get to know the people in your community. Let’s not forget, food in and of itself is an important connecting factor. Jezus showed us that by breaking the bread. It also helps that people take turns cooking, or bake something at home that they bring along, it strengthens the feeling of ‘we’.’
‘When there are more people coming for dinner than expected, we simply share with what we have,’ Elke adds. ‘I think that’s very telling for our English community. We welcome everyone, and we make sure everybody feels welcome as well. No matter where you’re from or how you live your faith.
Feel free to join us for English mass, every Saturday at 17.15h. St. Catharine's church is located at Kruisbroedershof 4 5211 GX 's-Hertogenbosch.
